What practical issues would someone who is merely a 'lodger' not 'tenant' face?

Hi there. My friend and I are moving into a flatshare. You may have seen my other thread but the current arrangement (until we can get the contract changed) is that one of us is the named tenant and the other has status as lodger, not being a named tenant on the tenancy agreement with the landlord.

Would lodger be able to:
- use the property as her address on correspondence and also use the address as proof of address (for whatever reason e.g. putting something in storage will require proof of address, registering with a local doctor).

- take out a contents insurance policy on that property

Thanks

    yes and yes,

but the tenant could kick the lodger out for any reason with as little as 24 hours notice.

    Sorry, I forgot: "unfortunate".

"Oh dear, my fingers slipped and completely by accident I posted a specific claim that I would prefer my letting agent be English because I think non-English people will scam me! How unfortunate! Butterfingers!"
it was in a nice office in West London and there were English people working there.
I do feel more trusting if I am dealing with English people. Nothing discriminatory at all but there is so much bad press about foreign scammers

How unfortunate of her that she accidentally hit all of those keys in that exact order, and then copied and pasted her accidental writings onto a totally different forum.

Oh come on give the OP a break! We all make mistakes, and they have been told off, and I'm sure they realise their comments caused offence, no need to follow them onto a new thread just to resurrect an old argument. In the words of Avenue Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbud8rLejLM

Erm, no. That's not a "mistake". People don't try and justify their mistakes, nor do they deliberately repeat them. And the OP doesn't seem to see what's wrong with what they said, they just say it was "unfortunate" that they said something horrifically idiotic and racist.

I consider racism morally unacceptable, and it stuns me that someone supposedly educated can hold such bigoted views.

Not really racist, its personal opinion, like saying she prefers to buy her shooping at waitrose than sainsbury's. Or prefers to use highstreet names over small businesses.

If the OP associates being english, with being trustworthy, more fool them.

Again, erm, no. Personal preference over service, quality, pricing etc is entirely different from judging someone's ability or likelihood to scam you on their ethnicity, something they have absolutely no control over.

It's an opinion, and you can't control an opinion of someone else. Doesn't matter if service was fantastic and prices low. That's not the point.

Like I said, if the OP believes that a foreigner (and im a foreigner!) would scame them and an english person wouldn't, more fool them. But having an opinion is not a crime.

I fail to see what answers OP can expect to get on this thread that have not already been given to her on her other thread. The exact questions asked in the first post were already answered on the other thread.

It is hard to see this behaviour as anything but provoking.

    Are we being trolled?
