That sounds yummy! Clas Ohlsen do a good selection of kilner-type flip-top jars and bottles, if you don't have any jars to hand (I tend to wash out and reuse any store-bought jars, whatever the size); they also look good if you want to give away the redcurrant sauce/jelly as gifts. As TM says it's important that the jars are clean, and preferably sterilised - contents will keep a lot longer. You can sterilise glass jars by submerging in boiling water for 10-15 mins, or put in a 200degF/93degC oven for 10 minutes.

For a different and unique flavour, try adding a vanilla pod which has been left overnight in caster sugar.

Or if it's thirsty work, try equal quantities of redcurrants and strawberries, juiced - the tartness of the redcurrants are balanced by the sweetness of the strawberries.

Or for a thirst-quenching drink, try approx 4oz redcurrants and 4oz strawberries and 1/2 an orange; juiced; add 4 fl oz water, stir in a teaspoon of honey, and add ice cubes.

Or try Blackcurrant & Redcurrant Cordial: approx 500g blackcurrants, 300g redcurrants, washed and destalked; put in a saucepan with 500g caster sugar and 500ml water, heat gently, stirring to dissolve the sugar; bring to a very gentle simmer for 5 minutes only (don't boil, or you'll lose the fruit taste and/or turn it into jam); add the juice of two lemons, stir well, and simmer gently for another 5 minutes, turn off the heat, cover and leave to cool; when cool sieve twice through a small-holed sieve, or through muslin; pour into clean, sterilised bottles. Makes approx 750ml (1 1/4 pints). Keeps in the fridge for six weeks. Or freeze, in plastic bottles (leave a bit of space at the top for the liquid to expand), or in ice-cube trays. Dilute with water or lemonade, or ginger ale for a peppery-type drink, or for the grown-ups add to a fizzy wine for a Kir Royale.

    Hello Jelly:wave:

    Sounds like Vimto territory :)

Thanks tbw. I'll make sure I'm a little over my £10 and see what I can get it down to (SA willing) :)

Big love to QOC. Hope your brother is a-ok and it's nothing serious.

Another successful food bank drop today. A boot full of booty and again asked what organisation we were from! Half tempted to say the elite ;)

I love to hear about your food bank trips. You and purple are ace:T:T
