Replacement glass for double-glazed windows

I need to replace two dg windows that currently have opaque glass in them. I want to have ordinary clear glass. I've taken the existing ones out and measured them and each one is 320mm x 710mm and I believe they are 24 or 25mm thick.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any online suppliers of these where I can tap in the measurements and then it will come up with a price. Perhaps someone could give me an idea of what the cost of the pair of them should be. I want to fit them myself.

For clarity here I only want the glass units, not the whole window inclusive of upvc frame.

Why not call your local glass merchants or glaziers and they will give you an exact price.

There is a world outside Google, believe it or not.

    As above from phil99.

There are double glaze unit manufacturers a couple of miles down the road from my home, as there will be all over the country. The advantage with this approach, unlike internet shopping, is the source, quality and come back are all "transparent".

Sorry, I had to get that one in!

Currently Low E units are around £30-00 sq metre for float glass and £35-00 for toughend, add £5 sq metre for Argon gas filled so your units will be 2 @ 0.3 metre so you would probably be charged £15-20 +vat per unit plus fitting .

Ring round your local glaziers/glassworks and get 3 quotes.

Many thanks for the info. What is a "Low E unit"?

Doing them yourself? Easy enough job but technically will need to be signed off by building control if not installed by fensa registered. Depends if you want to sell house at a later date as i may be wrong all new glazing has an etching of when the glass was manufactured..

The OP is only replacing the glass units so no need for FENSA ,CERTASS or local building control.

Yes I'm only replacing the current opaque units for clear ones. I've no intention of involving building control in this.
