23 yo living at home - what benefits?

Very much not in touch with the benefit system and recent changes so perhaps someone can help?
My daughter who is 23 has come back home recently. At the moment she does not have a job in London (was working in Cumbria before coming back to London).
I understand she can probably apply for JSA and and the under 25 yo rate.
I live in a council flat and receive no benefits myself, I pay my full rent and full council tax - the council tax of course went up now as I used to get the single person discount but since my daughter came back and I notified the CT office, they have sent me a new bill with full cost. That is fair enough of course as it is 2 of us living together now.
Can my daughter apply for any HB or CTB towards the rent/CT which I feel we should share now - considering she is living in the flat with me and I pay full rent/council tax?
Extra person at home is of course going to put the bills up a bit too so just wondering.
Of course she is looking for a job here in London now but till she finds one - it is going to be hard for me to support her really.
Can anyone advice please?
Thanks a lot

She will not be eligible for housing benefit. Council Tax Support schemes are administered locally, so you will need to contact your council to ask if they offer a deduction due to your daughter being in receipt of benefits (the equivalent of what used to be known as a second adult rebate).0

Thank you.
So living with me she is not expected to pay anything towards the rent?
If she was living alone she would be getting help with rent but not when she lives at home?0 -

Unless you are joint tenants she is not liable, however she is expected to pay towards her keep from her JSA.
If she was living alone she would be eligible for assistance, yes.0 -
That is correct gettingready.
As to now there may be as the other poster said what used to be known as a second adult rebate (although many LA's have stopped these). For contributions towards rent the expectation is that she would make those out of her JSA. As it's for living expenses and looking for a job rather than "pocket money".
If she lived alone she would only qualify for the shared room rate of LHA (until she is 35). In many cases now people with only an income of JSA living alone are expected to pay something towards rent and council tax.
Hope that helps

You make it sound like you have had a rent increase since she came home.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
Although she can't claim for CTB, it would be reasonable to expect her to pay the 25% single discount you've lost out of her JSA and, of course she can now may half of the utility bills and her food from this.0

Thanks for all replies/explanations everyone.paddedjohn wrote: »You make it sound like you have had a rent increase since she came home.
Yes I did, in a way. And a big one too - I had to give my lodger notice to move out to free up my daughter's old room so lost the rent money and it was much more than my daughter will be getting in JSA (if she gets it at all). But you could possibly know that so I understand the tone of your post.
And of course my council was notified that I had a lodger and granted permission.
Bit worried as the timing is just simply really bad - will be changing jobs soon from full time PAYE to contracting which means there will be about 8 weeks between my last salary from current job (end of july) and first payment from the new one (end of september) and it is going to be REALLY tough with extra person and extra 2 cats (on top of my own 4 cats and a dog).
Just hope she finds a job soon.. sigh...0 -

So how did you manage to get the single person discount on the CT if you had a lodger?"Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich0 -
If you had a lodger, you shouldn't have had single persons discount for Council tax because you weren't.....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
