rant at orange mobile
my dad sadly passed away yesterday,
so started calling his utilities up and got all sorted over the phone, all except his orange mobile
I got told i must fax a copy of his death certificate or visit a EE shop, both very unpractical due to the obvious more pressing matters to sort out, so i just asked for their snail mail address or better still an email sent securely via my dads online account which I have access to.
they would not budge, i told them then just to give a months notice and i'd pay the £7 charge for that month, not allowed to because he wanted to speak to the account holder?
then I said, "well the bank account will be closed soon so you won't get any payment at all" I was trying to be fair and clear his existing debts out of my own pocket as my dad as zero money in the bank,
he then threatened me with the debt collectors?
how would that work when they don't have my details and any mail sent obviously would go to my dad address.
he ended up being really abusive shouting down the phone at me.
woeful CS
I have enough on my plate to worry about without a poxy £7 mobile bill adding to it

No it doesn't and I understand exactly where you're coming from as my Dad died just a few days ago and I too am trying to sort his stuff in an honourable way and it is just shocking how many stupid little inconsequential organisations are up themselves yet people like his bank and his doctor have been truly wonderful.
Hope you sort everything and can take time to grieve. Hugs.

It really is unacceptable that these companies cannot use a little common sense when dealing with bereavements. And, to the person who mentioned banks, I've heard of people having problems with them, as well.0

Having worked for a bank ( and in debt management specifically) I'll say this.
People will try every trick under the book to avoid paying their debts.
However...
Be it a bank or mobile operator, whilst they may not accept verbal communication regarding death, if you can provide a death certificate they should accept that as the end of the contract (if someone uses it afterward that is still payable however.)
In case it matters when I (rarely) dealt with this I would go over to the dialler team and request they give a 3 day grace from the automated system.0 -
I remember having this problem when my mum died. The the piece of drunken crap that calls himself my father was worthless so I had to sort everything out. I started by cancelling all direct debits.
The only companies that gave me grief were her mobile phone and TV licensing who both sent threatening letters. I ignored them. The letters got stronger so, cutting a very long story short, I gave them the address of the graveyard as my mums new address. I never heard from them again.35, semi retired, sun, sand, sea, life is good
When you are done moaning remember that there are people who would love to have your standard of living!0 -
The problem is there are lowlifes which will pretend a death to get out of a contract0
