Washing machine problem

Hi
I have a Siemens xm 140 extraklasse washing machine that has developed a fault.
I came to use it this morning and put the laundry in as usual. I set the temp at 40 degrees and switched it on.
Luckily I was still in the kitchen when I realised it hadn't stopped filling and the water was nearly to the top of the drum. The drum hadn't rotated as normal it was just sat there filling with water.
I switched it off and got the water to drain and tried again, same thing happened, it just keeps filling.
So had to drain it then switch it to rinse to wash the soap out of the laundry and then spin it.
The drum goes round, no problems there, so its not the brushes. I checked the filter and thats clear as well.
Any ideas and is it fixable or do I need an engineer to fix it.
thanks everyone

Try unplugging the unit for a while and then plug it back in. If it still does not stop filling after that, then you probably have a circuit/sensor fault. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0

There will be a water level sensor - sounds like this has gone.
Sounds like it was lucky you were in!0 -
Is it easy to change a water level sensor yourself or do you need an engineer.
It was lucky I was stood next to it washing the dishes from breakfast or goodness knows what mess I would be in.

This video should give you and idea where to look:

The setup should be the similar as Bosch & Neff are the same as Siemens.
Just to be sure that it is the sensor and not the electronics, try a few other program cycles. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
