Santander - web & customer service tel. line down?

Been trying to register for online access to newly opened Santander 123 account, but clicking through the register link on their site just brings up error messages.
So tried calling customer service line - 08459 724 724 - doesn't go through, just a "There is a fault" message.
Anyone else getting this? Is their whole online/telephon CS system down??
If so, anyone know how often this happens?

If its a new account and you don't have any other santander accounts, they would have already registered you for internet banking. They usually send all the details out in separate letters over a 7 to 10 working day period.
So why are you trying to register for internet banking when they have more than likely already done this for you?
Its probably one of the reasons why you can't register as you will already be registered.
Wait for the letters in the post giving you your internet ID and passwords then log on!!Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Well that one goes through fine. Very odd - still getting the error tone and "There is a fault message" for the main line. However I shall be adding the 0800 no. in permanent marker onto my card so that I can always use that in future!! Thanks! For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0

Because I haven't received anything yet and I want to view the account online to check if an online transfer has been received.
Reasonable, no?
And no, already being registered is not the reason I was getting an error message - this came up before I even had the chance to enter any details. As soon as you click on the "Register for online banking" button on their site. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0 -
Just tried 08459 724 724 and got welcome to Santander message and then went into listing menu options as normal.0

So, just a little update on this one ... 1 month later, no internet banking details have arrived. I call in to see why - despite telling me that they were going to register me for internet and phone banking, they haven't done so!!
It's a good job that the account perks are so good, because so far the customer service is rather dismal. Still, hopefully once I've actually GOT the online banking details, I will be able to do everything for myself. Fingers crossed. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0 -
Exactly what did not work for you when registering for telephone banking? Mine's been working fine for ages.
My local branch even gave me their direct phone line recently, and only today, on call into my local Branch, they gave me the direct phone line of the next larger branch (my local branch is a rather small A&L Branch and has a £5K/day cash limit), just in case I ever needed it for larger transactions.
If you are struggling with registering for telephone banking, I would recommend you pop into your nearest Santander branch and ask them to help you. Other than that, I would recommend their online banking which has served me very well for the last 24+ months. I have seen positive reports about their mobile banking app, too, but I don't use mobile banking myself (probably because I am developing into a dinosaur myself as we speak, but so far, I don't feel the need for mobile banking).0 -
Well apparently to use the telephone banking service, I need to set up a security code - and they must send the setup details to me through the post. Similar with internet and mobile banking.
Having been told that I had been registered for these, and to expect stuff in the post, I waited a month and received nothing .. hence yesterday's chasing phone call, in which I discovered that they hadn't actually registered me for any of them ....
I'm a big fan of internet banking - having used Co-Op's excellent service for years. It's soooo much easier for me to make an international bank transfer myself using an IBAN and BIC, than to call up or go into a branch and deal with a cashier or CS rep who usually doesn't have a clue what I am asking for, and takes 10 mins to look up how to do it, and what questions they need to ask me.For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0
