Portable power of portable Hard Drive

I have an external 2.5'' HDD enclosure/media player, that can be powered via USB or 5v Dc.
What I'm looking for is a portable rechargeable power supply that can power the HDD 'on the go'.
I've seen and tried a USB battery box (powered by 4 AA batteries), but it just doesn't supply enough power (the HDD lights come on, but the box just can't do the job).
Any Ideas ?

The Freecom one I've got has two USB Cables one for power and one for data and utilises two USB Ports on the PC. Can't you just get a USB to Power Cable, I did similar with an external DVD R/W DriveCheers

Thing is, I want to power the HDD/media player independently (no pc or laptop or DC).
I have a PMP that has a host USB, but it can't supply enough current to power and read the external HDD.
If the HDD is plugged in to the mains, the PMP reads the HDD via Host USB, no problem.
If I can find a portable power pack (the size of a digital camcorder battery) to run the HDD, my setup will be truly portable.0 -
Any more ideas, or does someone know any service provider that can make something for me ?0

AA cells hold 1.5v when fully charged, making ~6v in total for four. Maybe the hard disk uses a lot of power and requires a more powerful battery.
I know Energiser make AA-size lithium cells for high-drain devices (like digital cameras etc.). Would it be worth giving these a go?
P.S. What on earth is a PMP?!0
