Anglo Irish Bank 1 year fixed rate bond - 6.45%

Hi old Slaphead
When you open your first account with them, they insist on a cheque for payment.
After that you can pay by BACS and the account I am opening tomorrow will be a CHAPS payment.
The other alternative is to open one of their standard savings accounts as an intermediate - was paying a good rate of interest - not sure what the rate is at the moment.
Forgot to add that when I opened my first bond with them I asked them to let me know when the cheque would clear so that I could leave it until the last moment to transfer the money - ended up on slightly lower current account interest at Cahoot for 1 day only. With BACS you lose 3 days interest !!
Cheers

Is there any shorter fixes around ?
3 months ... say - or 6 months
Only seen 1 year and upwards in Best Buy tables?Hoping to retire soon0 -
I've seen all sorts. 1, 3, 6, and 9 months to name a few! Longer term swap rates have been lower for some time now (18 months maybe), although the seem to be flattening out at the 1 and 2 year end at the moment. Banks arent always keen to reflect the swap rates they can get in their fixed rate pricing though. Customers still expect a larger return for a longer commitment.
Recent swap rates do seem to have been climbing rapidly though. So it looks like there will be some good deals out there. Ultimately though you're getting a good rate of interest, even if you don't manage to secure the very highest rate on the market at the peak.0 -
@MattB:
Where do you get the info about swap rates? Is this in the public domain or do you have to subscribe to some sort of service to get the info (or maybe work for a bank)?0 -

Interesting....spoke to them yesterday and they confirmed that can open FRB with nil balance then BACS money in (tho' u need to include brief note with app to let them know what UR doing).0 -
Derbyshire fixed rate bond, until 31/07/08. w.e.f. 07/06/07 @ 6.45%
From Moneyfacts, although the link on Moneyfacts page gives an error, probably because today is only 06/06/07Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

Wouldn't do it for me back last October when I opened my first one but I was a totally new customer and the cheque was part of their new customer ID requirement. Are you an existing customer or did they ask you for additional ID to replace the cheque ?PLEASE DO NOT STEAL
