Can't get joint account with natwest - what now

My wife moved to the UK last September from the US. I've lived here for three years. We went to Natwest recently to open a joint account, but they weren't willing to give us one due to my credit (I've never missed a payment on anything, but I do have several maxed credit cards).

We do all our spending out of her wage, which is an issue as we only have one debit card to access this money. Do we have any options?

Myself and my boyfriend don't have a joint account but I have a spend and earn AA MasterCard which counts as a prepaid credit card but as you can only spend what's on there it essentially functions as a debit card, however it allows for additional cardholders. So we put on money each month for groceries or other joint expenditure like meals out and then it doesn't matter who goes to the supermarket as both of us have access to the same pot of money. Maybe something to consider.

That sounds like a good idea. Maybe I'll see if one of my credit cards will put her on there as another card holder.
