Uncleared Funds

Can somebody help shed some light on this.

We booked a holiday with Thom** C**k and paid the deposit on my credit card. When the balance was due my partner paid it on his debit card.

Due to an error with their system the amount was still showing as outstanding although it had been paid. Exactly one month later (without authorisation) they took the payment again from my credit card. The excuse being that if they had not have taken it the holiday would have been cancelled.

My partner went straight to the branch and they claimed to have refunded the money to his card. (the original payment method). One week later the amount is in his bank but is showing as uncleared funds. The bank are not able to help, and Thom*s C**k are useless.

Does anyone know why a card refund should show as uncleared funds and when does it clear?

Any help gratefully appreciated as the amount is for our honeymoon, so its not a small amount.

It can take 7 to 14 days for a refund to take place and be credited into an account.

It depends on when the retailer issues the refund and when your bank decides to action the refund and credit it to the account.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

Thank you for replying. I have not had this happen before, normally once it is showing the funds have cleared unless its a cheque.

If the bank would say it will be cleared in xxx days I would be happy, but cant seem to get a firm answer.

A refund actually takes the same amount of time as an original debit - it would be batch processed just like any payment any extra time is simply the vendor not getting their butt in gear and processing the refund in the first place!!!

Nobody has mentioned the compo word here but I think the way Thomas Cook have acted is disgusting and I think you should instigate a formal complaint (also telling them that any reward of a voucher for a discount on a future holiday as unacceptable).
