in Credit cards
Hello,
Just after some advice. My husband has a Vanquis card and had been making minimum payments. We recently moved to the Republic of Ireland.
When we called Vanquis to tell them this they closed the card, wouldnt accept our new address and have told us they will no longer take debit/credit card payments on the account. This is because you can only have the card if a UK resident.
Fair enough. We tried to pay the full balance of £490 on 17th June, but the payment was declined by vanquis as it was from an irish debit card. We tried again last week to pay using a UK debit card registered at a UK address but again vanquis rejected it.
Today I have received a letter (that they posted to my mother in laws address and she forwarded) saying that they are unable to take payments from us and have had to suspend the account temporarily. They also want me to send them photocopies of our debit card and a bank statement relating to said card! if they do not receive this within 14 days they will no longer accept payments.
Thing is last week we called them (costing us nearly 12 Euro) and was told the account was already closed, they would not take payments on it from any debit or credit card. I offered to pay it in full from a UK card registered at a UK address and still they said no!! Offered to send in a cheque written by my mum and still nothing!!!
I have written to complain but received no response, and have since got the the 'debit card info' request letter. At a complete loss with what to do.
The interest building on the account now means its over its £500 limit, and up to £650 even though the card has not been used since March!!! It is all overdraft fees, late payment fee etc.
I have spoken to a debt adviser who suggested going down the debt repayment/stepchange route. However I am reluctant to do this as our other debts are paid off and sorted and for the matter of 650 it seems silly to enter into something like this.
Any advice re complaints, reclaiming ROP or fee's??

Just BACS them the money using your bank account's online banking to the sort code and account number quoted on the statement, using the 16-digit Vanquis card number as the reference.
Also note that the month after you clear the bill in full there will be rolling interest to pay as well.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Thanks for the reply. I will call today and ask if they will accept a BACS payment. They are so unhelpful on the phone and had not mentioned this as a way to pay, but did rule out any debit card or cheque payments! fingers crossed!
Vanquis have already closed the account as we are no longer UK residents so once the balance is paid there shouldn't be any more charges on the account.
Thanks again.0
