My sister was asked the same thing about 10 years ago at her place of work,, she was offered £10,000 for it too. She declined and did contact the police, they did nothing.0

Report it because if and when it does occur at least they are alot more likely to scrutinise a wedding to this guyDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

That is where it crosses the line.My sister was asked the same thing about 10 years ago at her place of work,, she was offered £10,000 for it too. While the Border Agency are the first port of call, it most certainly is a Police matter as conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration and fraud are on the statute book! Doing nothing isn't an option.0

If immigration occurs off the back of this woman's approaches, it will not necessarily be unlawful. I see no fraud here. While the Border Agency are the first port of call, it most certainly is a Police matter as conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration and fraud are on the statute book! There are a number of offences on the statute books that aren't actually police matters and are enforced by other agencies.
That is the reason other agencies have enforcement powers to enforce those matters, one being UKBA being the primary enforcer of immigration laws.
Try and report a fishing trawler for breaching quota laws at your local police station and see what happens.====0 -

Of course doing nothing is an option...it is one that the police take fairly often (in my experience) when a job looks a bit too complicated or a bit too much like hard work. We might like it not to be an option but what we'd like and reality are two different things!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
The most likely reason the police did nothing is because they would need hard evidence of plans for a sham marriage. They can't arrest someone based on hearsay.
Now if there was a paper trail/e-mails etc. handed over to them, I am pretty sure they would take action and pass it onto the UKBA.
UKBA routinely make arrests of this sort right on the wedding day!0 -
I wonder if they would want my sister (or just SOMEONE) to go ahead with it all the way as far as it can go, in order to then bust them.0
