Damaged item returned....

...and seller has raised a request for a cancellation after agreeing I could return the item. However, I still haven't been paid back my money yet.
I was going to decline the request but thought I'd wait a few more days to be repaid. If I don't get repaid, what exactly happens when I decline the request to cancel?
Bizarrely, when I go through the item not as described route, which I should have done at the beginning, it says I haven't paid yet.

Damaged item is not "not as described". There is a special option for it "damaged item" after going to "resolve a problem" > "return an item"Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise.
