Removing wallpaper paste from walls prior to painting

Hi

My sister has had had a DIY disaster today at my mum's house. Basically my mum's house is House of Magnolia and she wanted to add some colour. She bought some wallpaper to do a feature wall and my sister went round today to put it up. However the wallpaper was awful - it ripped and marked far too easily so after they had put up two lengths they decided to give up and off the paper came. The walls were scrubbed with warm water with a tiny bit of washing up liquid in. The idea now is to paint a feature wall. How do we prepare the wall to ensure that the paint adheres and there is no paste residue on the wall?

if you wet the wall you can feel if there's any paste left as it feels slippery to touch , i would give it a soaking , then go over it with a green nylon scourer then wipe it with a squeegee . when dry give it a light sand down with 120 grit paper,

You could use Sugar Soap to clean the wall.

If the wall is not as it should be you could actually put lining paper up for a better finish to your wall. The best lining paper you can buy.

wash wall with warm soapy water and while wet run a wallpaper scraper back and forth on the wall , when the scraper picks up no more residue a final sponge over.
