Block of flats insurance

Hi, I live in a small block of flats (3 floors) and the maintenance company gets the buildings insurance and I have to get contents insurance.
My question is this if anybody could kindly answer: What happens if a fire breaks out in my flat or somebody else's flat and it spreads to mine, does the buildings insurance pay to turn my flat back to how it was ie. redecorate, new carpets and any building work needed. But my furniture I would have to claim on my contents insurance, is that correct?

Generally that would be correct unless you could prove negligence on the part of the other party in which case you could claim from your insurance and they'd recover from the other party/ their insurance or you may be able to claim directly from their insurers.

It is fairly rare that you can prove negligence in these kinds of circumstances though.

Carpets would come under contents.
