Renting through an agent

Hi,

Can I please ask when renting through an agent do you just pay the credit check fees up front and then the deposit and first months rent when you sign for the keys? Or would the deposit be required straight away after the credit check etc?

I've only rented privately and am looking to move but not sure how much would be expected on the day of applying and if say we didn't collect the keys until the 4th August if we would pay the deposit then.

Hopefully this makes sense!! Thank you.

Different agents have different rules - ask them.

Alsoask (and get in writing) whether/which fees are refundable, & in what circumstances. eg

    *you fail the credit checks
    * you 'pass' the checks, but the LL/agent chooses another tenant
    * you change your mind about renting the property
    * the landlord/agent changes their mind about letting the property
