cant set up new laptop and router

hi i just bought this laptop ......Acer laptop featuring Windows Vista Home Premium, Intel Pentium Dual Core processor, 1GB RAM, 120GB hard drive, DVDRW & 15.4" widescreen display

and a wireless netgear adsl router....tried to set it up but cant...havnt come across " windows vista " before so am stuck....does anyone have an " idiots " guide to set this up ?
