Placement year financing under old scheme

Hello everyone,
I am going on placement this July for a year and have applied for student financing.
Since I started uni before the tuition top fees were introduced my funding is based on the old £1050 ish yearly tuition fees but since my parents are on a low income I get that paid off by and also get a HE grant of £1k.
I have just received the assessment for the student financing and it states that the tuition fee is paid for (this is half the normal ~£1k) but no HE grant.
I was wondering if people who have previously gone on placement received a HE grant on their placement year.
Thanks for any help
Sam
#####Edit##
Just found out that Government grants are not normally available to students during a full placement year.
Thanks anyway
