cat c car insurance

i have a cat c car on the road, vic checked, etc,my insurance is due and decided to run it through some well known quote sites, but no one asks if the car was cat c,in my eyes it shouldn't matter and to some company's it doesn't but the lowest quote was from swiftcover and i know they don't cover cat c cars as i was with them when i got the car and had to find another insurer ,my car is obviously on the register so they know it's history, so why are these company's quoting because if i didn't know and took them on i would be up a creek if i had an accident.i do hear the category scheme is going but it's still in force just now

Generally because of the costs and practicalities involved. Some aggregators have 100+ sellers on their systems. Some of those are brokers that can have 10+ insurers on their panel.
The HPI systems are simply not designed to deal with the sheer volumes of queries to the dbs and so it is easier to put it into the T&Cs etc that someone must agree to rather than pay millions to upgrade systems especially given the relative rarity of total lossed vehicles still on the road0 -
Its simple, they can't lose. If you don't have a claim in the year they have pocketed your premium, if you did have a claim they can get out of paying citing that you should have read the small print.0

thats all fine but i only know this because i was with swift cover,i looked at all the t&c's that swiftcover give before you take out a policy online and there is no mention of cat c's but if you purchase then it's in their full t&c's.0
