We have been using them for years and found out about this last week so have cancelled our membership and gone with Blockbuster instead. It's a shame because we've never had any problems with them but we use it mostly for games so would be pointless keeping the membership just for films. Hopefully Blockbuster will be good though.

This is an absolute bummer for people like myself who mostly just rent games. An alternative to this service is Boomerang game rentals who are relatively cheap and, from what I here, quite a good service.

*I'd post links to websites but I don't want to go breaking any forum rules, but Google is your friend.

My husband is a member of that company and they are really good. They offer a free month's trial as well.

    Hi,

I don't know if anyone can give me some advice, but I paid in advance for 12 months film and game rental. The game aspect of the rental was a Christmas present to my daughter so I would like a cash refund so that I can buy her something to replace it.

Lovefilm have said they will refund the game aspect of the pre-pay but only as a credit to my account, not as a cash refund. As far as I am concerned, they have broken the contract so they should refund me the cash I paid.

Does anyone know where I stand legally on this?
  • Sneaky sneaky. I suppose the problem you've got is that they're not closing down, so you're payment is still valid. I'd be surprised if there was any way around it. Certainly worth writing them a letter or something and explaining you was only in it for the games? Play for a bit of compassion?

I've been e-mailing customer services about it and have just escalated it to a formal complaint. It's over £40 so not an insignificant amount.
