Lovefilm Cancels Game Rentals

Hi Everyone, my first post so I thought I'd make it an informative one.
If any of you use the Lovefilm rental service, you may or may not know that earlier this week they have stopped their games rental service for new and existing customers.
So if you only have a movie package, then you can't upgrade to games.
At the moment, if you have a games rental package already, you're safe. But I did read somewhere yesterday they'll be cancelling games altogether on August 8th.
This is an absolute bummer for people like myself who mostly just rent games. An alternative to this service is Boomerang game rentals who are relatively cheap and, from what I here, quite a good service.
*I'd post links to websites but I don't want to go breaking any forum rules, but Google is your friend.

Bye bye Lovefilm for me0 -
Interesting. If, on one of the many, many leaflets or letters they've sent me over the years they had clearly mentioned renting games I might have signed up with them. I'm guessing they have cancelled something that wasn't well advertised - which meant hardly anyone took them up on the thing that hardly anyone knew about.
Honestly, until I read your post I had absolutely no idea that they rented games. And now they don't.0 -
Thanks Joe, not a lovefilm user myself, but this sucks
I agree Joolzs, I used to get accosted all the time by them, while I do like my films I have watched a great many of them and see little point in spending money not to use a service; likely they would not have had pc games available and I don't have a console, but I know others...
Typical of mall harassers not to take the time to fit their message to the person walking by...lazy."Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
In all honestly, they can't make that much profit on renting games out. And clearly the most profit must be on streaming services. And especially with the will it won't it DRM of the new consoles, it's only a matter of time before Microsoft and Sony have their own streaming Cloud based rental service on their consoles.
I've been renting games from Lovefilm for about 5 years. I'm gutted by the way I had to find out, on internet forums and not straight from them.Knowledge is a tool, and like all tools, its impact is in the hands of the user.0 -

I agree with you, and am more annoyed the way that I found out, like you, than the fact that they have cancelled the service completely.
I will be moving from them, which is a shame as apart from this I have never had any problems with the service, getting games i rated high, if games were lost they replaced them no questions asked. Oh well you win some you lose some.0 -
We had games on our rental queue - never ever got one sent from them.
I cancelled recently after a spate of quite rude door-to-door salesfolk around - number three within a fortnight was the final straw.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I took out. Subscription last year , and had to cancel after 3 weeks. All my top titles that were supposedly sent out were never received by me. All I managed to get was 1 DVD and 1 game that was quite old.
I find it quite funny how I never got any of the quite new games and all 3 went AWOL before getting to me, but managed to get the rubbish fine.
Also I rented from blockbuster online, and there game titles is somewhat lacking. And there top tickets was limited for games that HD been out on release for quite some time, so again cancelled within a month.
I have heard good reviews for gaming rentals from boomerang if that's any help.Started advent comps 04.12.2013

I only ever have games on my list. Looks like I'm gonna cancel it completely now.0

Got the email last night (finally) apologising for not contacting us all sooner etc. They did say that our last month of game rental will be free, so payment wise, my fee has gone to the cheaper subscriptionKnowledge is a tool, and like all tools, its impact is in the hands of the user.0
