    It seems very reasonable, given the number of people who seem to develop illnesses or get made redundant almost as soon as they take out payday loans.

    They're required to deal with you sympathetically. That doesn't mean they can't ask for proof.

    Perhaps the lenders should be asking for medical and educational proof that the borrower has both read and has understood the t & c's before lending them anything.
    I can afford anything that I want.
    Just so long as I don't want much.
