Can a payday loan company demand this?
I have been trying to set up a repayment plan with a payday loan company whereby it will all be paid off in just three months. I explained to them how my circumstances have changed since taking out the loan (medical reasons) but they are refusing to freeze interest or stop adding charges unless I sent them medical proof?
This seems like a strange request as they basically want to know all about my medical issue and to even get my doctor to write them a note?
I am a little perplexed about this to be honest and wonder if anybody else has ever had the same thing.

Which company is it?
Unfortunately, they can pretty do as they please with interest and charges. When you signed up to the loan, you agreed to their terms and conditions. They have no obligation to freeze interest etc
Have you spoken to Payplan or Stepchange? They may be able to assist.0 -
they dont have to freeze interest at all
you broke the agreement, your circumstances are irrelevant0 -
They simply want to know if you're telling the truth, or trying it on - you need a sick note if you're off work for more than a couple of days, this isn't that different.0

Why should they not want proof. Otherwise they only have your word that what you say is true. If all they needed was the word of the borrower then anyone could plead medical problems and get the interest stopped and repayment deferred.
As it is you that is asking for some special consideration from them I would have thought that you would jump at the chance they are offering. They are not actually interested in the minutiae of your medical details, all they are asking is that you prove that you do have a genuine medical problem.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
You either pay the agreed interest and charges for non-payment or you play ball and provide them the evidence they want.
Seems fair to me.0 -
I can only echo what others have said, except to add that it's possibly a good thing that they are asking you for proof. If they were going to take a hard line whatever your circumstances then they'd probably not ask for proof, they'd just turn you down. The fact that they want to see something suggests that they may well help you out if you've genuinely fallen seriously ill.0

They may well help themselves to money from your account as before

Surprised you've not had enough of Payday Lenders over the years?

Oh, Barry, have you not learned your lessons? Well I have a little bag of magic beans for sale, for you I'll give you a great price. I'm guessing the reason you can't give them a medical report is because you're talking out of your !!!!.
Just think; it's because of people like you that these poor companies get such a bad name.0 -
Cant see whats wrong with whats being asked, really thing you would have learnt your lesson to not go near PDL's again but there you go.0
