Bissell carpet washer

Hi, we are considering buying a Bissell carpet washer. Huge expense for us (around £250). We have a home with 6 adults in it and a large dirty dog! I seem to spend loads on hiring the machines from supermarkets but am never really happy with the finish. Have had professional cleaner in, but the effect only lasted a week.
Thinking that if we got our own machine we could do the carpets as we need to (more frequently than we do due to cost). Does anyone recommend their machine? I've been advised that Vax are mediocre.
Thanks for any thoughts

Have always used bissell carpet cleaners. Have the lift off version at the moment where you can pull the tank off the main unit to do stairs etc and it is brilliant. Bit noisy but can move around fine just like the traditional vacuum cleaner. Important to get a decent carpet shampoo though ...

I've used both Bissell and Vax, I found the Bissell much better. You may want to look at one of their reconditioned ones, quite a bit cheaper than new :

But having your own shampoo-er is definitely worth while in the long run, I wouldn't be without mine.

I have had a bissell pro heat for a few years now and I find it invaluable. I have a light beige carpet in my hall and the last 3 years I have had considerable builing work done in the house including a new kitchen, bathroom and my livingroom refloored and replastered.

Despite workmen in and out and dust and generally grime of day to day living and a DH that never wipes his feet whenever I shampoo the carpet it comes up like new. As the previous poster said, get a good shampoo. I always use the bissell range and try and find it on offer and stock up.

Another yes from me. Build quality on the Bissell is much better than the vax too.
Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!
