car problem

I dont think that i am supposed to post about actual car problems here but thought that somebody may be able to advise me please.....
My car is getting old - 9 years old 75,000 miles and had lots of problems....recently it has had a full service and 4 new tyres and tracking done.........cannot afford or want to spend another dime on the darn thing and, being a female, i dont want to be ripped off by my garage who have had a lot of money out of this year on repairs etc.......
I dont expect my car to be perfect as its getting older - however, when i had the four new tyres I told my garage that it makes a noise underneath the car when i do three point turns and going sharply round corners.....a sort of `shifting noise`....they said, `that will be the tracking` - however, this problem is still as bad following their `super tracking`....
Two weeks on and the car is soooo uncomfortable to drive....it feels as though i am driving on really bad roads all the time....bumpy and lumpy and i can feel everything underneath me if that makes sense......(the tyres were cheap tyres but i dont think this is the problem as such)....just something seems really wrong and it is a hard, lumpy, bumpy and uncomfortable drive all the time........
I am female, know nothing abut cars.......and dont want my garage to rip me off should i tell them that since the tracking and new tyres the car feels dreadful........could it be the suspension perhaps.......i really dont want to spend any more money on the car right now......and this hard, lumpy, bumpy ride like riding over unmade roads all the time wasnt there before the new tyres and tracking....also, it was fine for two weeks and then started up a couple of days ago......
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Sounds to me that the cheap tyres are tramlining or possibly your previous tyres had low pressure and absorbed the bumps more.
Btw it's not just females that get ripped off, male also do a lot too.0 -
Check your tyre pressures. Get a friend to help if you're not sure what you're doing.
However, it could just be that the new tyres are less compliant than the old ones, especially if they're really cheap. Nothing fundamental should have changed in the suspension from changing tyres and adjusting the tracking of the car.
9 years and 75,000 miles is nothing.
Perhaps your new tyres are just going to take some getting used to.
What is your car, what make were the old tyres (if you know) and what make/brand are the new ones?0 -
Whenever I get new tyres you can guarantee they're overinflated, had some new rears in April and they were up at 45PSI (should be 30), the car was skipping and jumping all over the shop.
I think they do this to bed the tyre in properly to the wheels, they just fail to tell you to check the pressures when you get home.
In the Westfield (kitcar), the tyre's should be at 18 PSI, if they're not it's like driving on ice skates.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Why are you guys concentrating on the tyres? You might be right but
I would be looking at:-
Wheel Bearings, Bushes and perhaps shock absorbers.0 -
Why are you guys concentrating on the tyres?
Purely because it's something simple that anybody can check/rectify.
I have no doubt that other factors could be present, but it's that fault finding process of starting with the simple stuff and working methodically to find the problem.
Unfortunately OP has had a different brand of tyre's AND the tracking altered, which makes tracing the problem much harder than if only one thing had been changed.
The traditional fault finding techniques seem lost these days, where dealerships especially just change everything associated with the problem, so for a simple fault you end up with a huge bill for what was actually just a dodgy connector or a loose screw.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Because it is the only thing the OP has changed.
But it was making the noise before the tyres were changed, so that is why I was (semi) discounting the tyres.
Edit:-
Hmmmm......just re-read that and I might be wrong in my interpretation of what the OP said.
OP was the noise there before you changed the tyres?0 -
Hi, many thanks for your replies, suggestions and help.
The noise underneath the car when doing a three point turn and going sharply round a corner (as though something is shifting) has been there several years to be honest....i always mention it at services etc but its still there when i collect the car.......I thought maybe having the tracking done might help the situation but its still the same...
However, the difference that i am noticing now and what is concerning me is the `bumpy ride` - it is a `hard` ride if that makes sense.....nothing feels `cushioned` and i can feel every imperfection of the road.....it feels as though every road that i drive down is in dreadful condition and i never had that before......I just noticed this a couple of days ago but collected the car with new tyres about 2 weeks ago......
The tyres are cheap.....they are indeed budget tyres and my previous ones were on the limit........
I agree that i should check the tyre pressure - maybe that is why i am getting a `hard ride` as too much air.......I just worry that should i take it back to the garage they will find something else that needs more money spent - I have already spent 1,000 this year on repairs and servicing etc and the car is becoming no longer financially viable....
It is a corsa sxi 03 plate and i would never get another one....
Many thanks again - i will check the air pressure.....but, this bad driving sensation didnt start until two weeks after the new tyres...but best to rule this out....
Thanks again0
