Landlord and deposit

We will be leaving our rented accommodation in the next couple of months due to buying a house. We had an inventory before we moved in and it said about redecorating part of the house ,and replacing carpets. There are things noted down on the inventory and the landlord has not done any of the work since we moved in.

What do you think is the best way to approach leaving the property? Of course we will clean thoroughly. But do we have to fill and paint walls where a shower curtain has been put? Or where we have drilled to put up a mirror?.
As there is work on inventory that needs doing could I suggest a small contribution towards some decorating?. Or do I just leave it after cleaning it up thoroughly?

    * Clean (to at least the standard describedon the inventory).

    * Repair any damage you have done

    * take photos

    * request your deposit back in full.

    * Do not redecorate (unless you have caused extensive damage to decor)

    * you are not responsible for work that needed doing when you moved in but that was not done.

    * you are not responsible for normal wear and tear

    Thanks GM for coming back to me. When you say repair any damage do you mean fill any holes we have drilled?. We had to notify the agents for anything we wanted to do like drilling etc.

    Speak to the landlord in good time about whether they would prefer you to leave the shower curtain or remove it and make good. The hole you have drilled to put up the mirror needs to be filled and the paint-work touched up if that's what the landlord wants. Do not leave it until the check-out inspection for the landlord to discover what you have left. That way, deductions lie.
