I've recently moved house and I've told Zurich the new address so they move the content insurance over (note; contents insurance, not building insurance). They want to know what year the house was built in - why does that matter and how do I find out?

Older houses maybe a higher risk to them. Wooden beams with woodworm that may attack your furniture?
Thatched roof that may weep water?
Also probably because of any liability insurance. If you damage the property and the owner wants to claim from you. (presume rented)Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
As to how you find out, if you don't know, ask a neighbour.
The definitive way is to look at the Valuation Roll, as soon as the property is built it is coded and entered, being charged for all subsequent years. Check the library for old ones, or ask your Valuation Office for the info.0 -
After some searching around I came across someone saying that the esure website will tell you half way through quote process for insurance (so they wont contact you as you don't complete the process)...

...I've tried it and it works! :j0
