Not spam! I’m just posting this in case it’s of help to anyone else.


I was looking for a 2.5” conventional 750GB drive with 7,200rpm spin speed and found this at eBuyer. Price is £45 (inc VAT) with free shipping.

I opted for next day delivery, which is listed at a supplemental fee of £8, but I wasn’t charged it; shipping remained free. (So, try for that if you want it.)

I ordered mine at 7:40 pm and it arrived (via Yodel) at 10:30 am the following morning! :T



They’e also selling the Western Digital Scorpion Black or the Seagate Momentus for £55, if you prefer those, but I’ve been using Hitachi 7,200 rpm HDDs in my laptops for the last 12 years and have never had a problem with one.

They aren’t, of course, as fast as an SSD or a hybrid but they’re fine for devices no longer in their youth, upon which you may not wish to lavish the substantial extra cost of those.

I’ve never had a heat problem with a 7,200rpm drive in a (Mac) laptop but they do consume more battery power than a 5,400 rpm, which might be a crucial factor for some.

Personally, though, I prefer the speed of a 7,200 – and a 750GB for £45, shipped, is a great price. :money:


(By the way, I disagree with a comment posted on the eBuyer page that the Hitachi is “noisy”: mine is effectively silent, as are the Hitachi drives in my MacBooks Pro.)
