Can you have an open ended Completion Date?

It is possible to complete earlier than your agreed date. We did. No chain and an issue the vendor thought she was going to have didn't transpire but we had already exchanged. She knew we had already completed on our house 3 weeks previously and were camping on parents' floor with stuff in storage, so could complete with no notice. The solicitors were happy to do it. In the end only 24 hours early, but I guess it reduced their Friday workload a bit that week.
The OP states that they have advised they "may be a while", not that they wish to hold everything up for an excessive time period.I'd be totally livid if you couldn't count the number of months between August - when the OP is due to exchange - and November.
July
August
September
October
November
That makes 5 unless you have some sort of special calendar?...it's only the 4th of July and they want to complete the purchase on 30th November. As you'd hopefully tell them that you wished to complete in July, as soon as possible in fact.0 -
Thanks for replies - it would appear from them that some flexibility on completion date is an option at exchange.
As for the vendor being livid and putting his house back on the market - they are completely aware of the situation and are flexible so no dramas there. At the most we are looking for approx 3-4 months gap but assuming someone snaps up the house we currently rent, we would hope to be able to move things along quicker.0
