If you have an iPod you can put the things you want on the hard drive of it and transfer them over that way.

thanks for your suggestion but unfortunately this option won't work as windows 98 is running only in safe mode - usb plug and play devices are not being recognised. also cannot use the cd drive to run drivers.

Little John - I've ordered the product from scan you suggested.
I assume i have to just take hard drive out of the old computer, connect it to one end of this and connect the usb end to my new computer and just copy and paste everything i need.
    Is this correct?

or you got download ubuntu cut it to a cd and then boot from that. it will run directly from the cd. this should give cd-writing support and usb capabilitys. otherwise i would repair win98, connect up the 2 using parrell cable, xp, dos, and win98 support this. (not sure about in safe mode though)

or as suggested above put into a external hdd holder as suggested above.

In some cases you dont need to even remove the drive just connect the thing to the drive while it is in the PC.

it has the IDE connection and a molex power connector connect both of those to the drive.
it has a power adaptor that connects to the mains and the unit
and the usb end that goes to your pc/laptop whatever.

flick the sitch on the unit and the pc/laptop will find the mass storage device.
