bt line being fitted please advise

after much unhappiness with ntl. I have finally decided to switch to BT. I have ordered the land line and it will be fitted soon. the operator informed that their is a 12month contract and i would be fined if I switched from BT. I am assuming they mean switch back to NTL and not use a different provider..can anybody confirm??

I think they mean if you move you'd have to pay the remaining yrs rental that would have been paid if you had stayed with them. I'm thinking of moving from Virgin media too they get worse each day that goes by. I think like any product though you get a period f time in which to complain if the product isnt up to standard and then I think you can move without charge

Basically your signing a years contract with BT for the line rental. Which you cant get out of after the line is connected. Be careful not to sign for any 18 month call package contracts. Follow Heinz,s excellent advice here for cheaper line rental, calls,and calling features.

From the BT Site.

"From 1st May 2007, for customers ending their service early, we will replace the existing charges with a policy that requires customers who have ordered a line on or after 1st May to pay the outstanding line rental for the 12-month minimum term of their contract, up to a maximum of £70 (incl. VAT). Customers moving home and transferring BT service to their new address will be subject to a new minimum term from the date of start of service at the new address."
