'Right to buy' to be scrapped in Scotland

Just listening to LBC 97.3 FM Radio.
Black guy called into say he got his council house just because he chose to leave home, and went on to buy it for £70k, now worth £350k.
Like winning the lottery.
Yet again rewarded for nothing! Welcome to Britain.
How did you know he was a "Black" guy on the radio?
Even so, what is the relevance?:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.

Ties into post 6."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Sorry, can't see how the colour of a person is linked in post 6:wall:

I mention it because he specifically mentioned it. I think he was painting himself as a lad from the hood done good? Now don't be one of those whites taking offence on behalf of black people.........0 -

Meanwhile, back on topic
- my parents bought their house at a hefty discount. I thought it was wrong then and I think it's wrong now.
The very least any public sector house should be sold for is the balance of debt outstanding on its construction, let alone market value.

Nothing inspired me more in life than spending my youth saving up and scraping together a house deposit, only to find that the majority of the houses I could afford were ex council and bought under right to buy.
One house we looked at had been bought by the previous owner for £19k and was up for sale for £129k 5 years later... absolutely shocking if you ask me. No excuse for it.0 -
One of those issues I'm torn on but I think on balance I'd come down in favour of scrapping it. Far too many Londoners I've met that have made hundreds of thousands by being in right place at right time thus enabling them to leap frog others who worked and saved very much harder to get the same result.
I lost count of the number of houses we did walk bys to look at in Greater London that were on for £250,000 and turned out to be in streets full of England flags, Staffies barking in front gardens, and vans up on bricks.0
