Barclays now offer on-the-spot debit cards if you need one quickly.

Do they? That I did not know.

HSBC are just antiquated rather than Barclays modern.

I handed over my card to make a deposit (like all my other banks) and they directed me to the blank deposit slips.

I went to take out more than the ATM limit over the counter and they ordered a cheque book so that I could 'cash a cheque'.

I thought I was banking in the 80s and not in a nice nostalgic way.

I have recently moved my main bank from HSBC to Barclays. Not having to fill out paying in slips was a time saver. It would be interesting to know what other readers think of Barclays and how other banks compare.

If offering a 4% Reg Saver is antiquated, and only offering pants interest rates in any account is modern, I am a full-on "antiquated" fan then

I think the last time I made a deposit was about 25 years ago as a kid - I visited a bank with my passbook, withdrew cash, bought what I wanted and then deposited the rest.

Never made a deposit or withdrawal over the ATM limit since then.

Oh, actually I tell a lie. Last month I deposited £2.97 into the automated loose change machine. No paying in slip required for that one though.

Barclays is the one UK bank I have no current account with. I never saw anything from them that seemed compelling enough to open an account there.
Yup. Barclays is probably the only major bank I've never been with because they never seem to offer any stand-out products. Why would I want a debit card with my face on it if I'm getting poor interest rates and benefits? :rotfl:

    Yup, it's relatively new.

Just go to the branch locator and select 'Branch debit card replacement' and any local branch that offers the service will be displayed. :)

:) different strokes. The only reason we were able to buy our house (difficulties because I don't have Indefinite Leave to Remain yet, and we needed both our incomes for the loan) was because of Barclay's preferential treatment of existing customers.

Huh, that's quite nifty. I suppose they're taking a leaf out of Metro Bank's book, given they advertised that service particularly heavily.

had a Barclays current account for 45 years, top class current account service, excellent IT and online banking, has never cost me a penny in 'charges' and doesn't offer me any 'free benefits / services' which I don't want anyway. I have savings and ISAs with other institutions. Horses for courses.

May be competition might be working, after all? Just imagine it would bring us something universally beneficial.
