hi, i wonder if someone can help please.
I have just had my quarterly electric bill and they have put up the price per unit with out any notification from 9.07 to 9.685 per unit.
i rang them up and they said it went up at the end of may so they have included the increase in this quarter which runs from 1st april until 1st july averaging it out. the actual increase so they told me was 10 point something or other.
Better explain i live in a park home and have no choice in paying quaterly to the company who then pay the electric company.
Up until last year the increase always went from 1st of july each year, the start of the summer quarter for 1 year.
Last year the park company decided the 12 month contract only went to part way through may instead of 1st july and have done the same thing this year but not told us of the increase.
Their excuse was, we have prepared a notice .
Not one of the 32 residents on the park have been told of the increase, i wouldnt have noticed it but seeing the new price per unit on the tiny basic bill they give us.
Can they legally just put up the price without informing us or giving us any notice ?
They say they can and there is no law that says they cant do this.

The management company are not allowed to make a profit from re-selling electricity.
However provided they keep to that provision, if they are paying extra, there is nothing to stop them passing that increase on to you.
I would add that 9.685p/kWh is considerably cheaper than domestic supplies to households, especially if there is no standing charge??0 -
there not even charging you the full going rate for electric so be happy about it0
-
Wish I could get it for less than 10p a unit - our tariff including the daily charge works out at 10.7p a unit and that's the best I can getNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

I know they are not allowed to charge more than they are charged, thats not the problem.
My query is can they put up the charge without any notice. What they have done is not bothered to let us know its going up. The first we knew about it was in the bill.
As far as i am aware utility companys should give some notice its going up and from what date. We didnt get any.
As far as it being cheaper , yes and no. Mosty on this particular park are of retirement age as well as a few disabled which means some of them would be entitled to the social fund which means they could get back £125 for the electric if they qualify.
For those not entitled to it , yes its cheaper because of the buying power of the company so its swings and roundabouts.
But even if its a better deal surely they have to give some notice of it going up and not just include the increase in your bill with out saying a word.
Its not as if it was sprung on them.0 -
i also said it will be more than 10p per unit and yes we do pay a standing charge and a fee to the park company to process the bills.
matelodave. thats roughly what we pay. it might be slightly more and given some on here would be entitled to the cash back under the social fund of £125 per year its actually more expensive.0 -
park homes are covered by the 1983 mobile homes act as ammended in 2013,and as such rules that apply elsewhere can be very different
if your implied terms and conditions state that you should be given notice of an increase then yes you should,if they dont then theyve done nothing wrong,i suggest you ask your question on this forum

btw i also agree that around 10p per unit is cheap0
