where have I derided anyone for using the thanks button, its you that is doing that, I am simply saying that it is not there to be used as a judgement on the quality of someones post.0 -
I believe the Thanks button was introduced to avoid people making one word posts to say thanks, and by the same token it also avoids unnecessary posts just saying "I agree". One of the annoying things about web forums (fora?) is when you see that there are new posts, go to the "trouble" of opening the thread and scrolling down it, only to find someone has said "thanks" or "I agree".
I haven't noticed any bullying, but there is a Report button for that if you believe it is happening. I like thanking people I agree with via one click of a button as I read their post.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

again you are bullying me because of my post count

I wasn't referring to the number of posts you have made on MSE, I was referring to the number of posts you have made in this thread. Quite a few for someone who says they don't care about this issue.
You seem to claim you're being bullied on almost every post you have made on here, but you're just being passive aggressive. You chose to come on here, I didn't seek you out. Your first post was rude, calling me obsessive and dismissing the issue I raised and your attitude has not changed since. Perhaps you need to chill out a bit?
I thought I had a reasonable idea to help keep the "thanks" button for its intended purpose. If you disagree with the idea, then please attack the idea, not the person.0 -
I'd say a bigger problem is members who have multiple user names. Also those people who get PPRd, immediately create a new user name and carry on with their drivel regardless.0

That makes a lot of sense, but if it is the case that the Thanks button means not just 'thanks' but also 'I agree' or is a bookmark for people, or other meaning, then why have a counter for the number of thanks a person has received?
As a newbe, I got the idea that having a Thanks button and Thanks count meant that it was an aid to showing how helpful someone was, and was an indicator of how reliable someone's advice was. Perhaps this was the original purpose, but from the feedback on this thread, it seems that purpose has gone and so rather than remove the "Thanks" button from discussion threads, the answer is to remove the "Thanks Count" from people's profiles?
It seems that it no longer serves a purpose except to confuse newbies?0 -

Hi, sorry could you please create another thread about your issue? This one is about the Thanks facility and it'd be great if it didn't go off on a tangent. Also, your issue would be better served on its own thread as it'd get a wider audience of people interested in the same discussion.
Cheers and good luck.0 -

Oh you can tell your new. I would say 20% of the threads on here go off subject. As do most conversations in the ' real world '0 -

LOL, true and some of the best conversations (online or IRL) are often those that come from out of the blue. However, as this is a thread in the Feeback area I thought I'd be strict.
Besides, that poster would have more luck with his/her own thread, rather than losing their message in a thread about something else.0 -
