The thing I wondered is how much will it cost to have the extra staff to do all the new work focused interview that will be required. At the moment all those working self employed have minimal contact with the tax credits office, if you want to subject a goodly chunk of them to work focused interviews at the job centre you will need a lot more staff i.e more cost.

Isn't this supposed to save money, not cost more?

I did wonder if they will actually do a much reduced phone "chat" to a lot of claimants rather than the same level as interviews as someone on JSA currently has. Just not the staff to cover otherwise.

Ali are you saying all those SE but making less than min wage for those number of hrs wil have to also attend work focussed interviews?

No wonder they are making less than min wage, they should be left alone to get their businesses up and running.

Interesting reading. I wonder what will happen if you are, for example, a retail business, which has signed a lease for premises but not making the profits you initially expected. You can't just stop trading as you are still liable for the lease but in trouble without WTC to prop you up.

You would default and this is likely to happen in large numbers.

I can see UC changes being very bad for the struggling UK economy it will almost certainly be changed to work the same as WTC or there will be more small business defaults than ever.

Ah - I must have misunderstood when the Government said that private enterprise was going to save the economy and provide jobs and income for the masses!

That will only be true if they provide real help for small businesses, not make it harder for them like UC will be doing
  • I am worried about when universal credit comes in I will not be able to afford to live.

I have a part time job 16hrs min wage and am trying to start a self emloyed business as well, so I work min 30hrs week total.

At the moment my business is making no profit, so we get LHA,CTB, CTC, and almost full WTC, plus CB.

We are just under the £500wk benefit cap because we have a largish family few kids and another on the way.

I understand it when UC comes in I will have to make my self employment earn profit the same as 35hrs x NMW per week:eek:

It is just not possible the way the economy is right now. I may get there if I persist through the downturn but who knows how long before we are out of this recession?

So if I am forced to close my S.E business I only have my 16hrs part time NMW job and they will not give me more hours, its doubtful if I will even keep that they are laying people ff all the time.

But am I trying to find out if my situation does not change I keep my part time job and part time S.E but no profit yet, will I still get my £500 wk or how much will I get?

They will just pack in and go sign on.
Why not, they have to jump the same hoops as those who won't work, so why bother working.
If they are not interested in helping people work then they won't help them.
Most large companies started with peanut profit ideas and built up.

It will add a million more to the unemployment figures right in time for the election.
A sure fire way to make sure they don't get re-elected.

I know builders and tradesmen who can not make minimum wage, 6 years ago they were earning 50-60 k a year.

The war on poverty has become the war on the poor.
Same old Fking Tories again !
    Be happy...;)

I just hope it will be delayed or changed, I want to carry on working not just give up and join the dole lines.
