CCS - cold calling scam

I just received a cold call (on my TPS registered number) from someone at CCS telling me that my mortgage had been mis-sold.
He went into the spiel about all these reasons why it had been missold (none of which were actually truthful - such as brokers being required to give the best mortgage available - they are not required do that and indeed for most it is actually impossible for them to do so).
I am just posting this for the benefit of others that may get cold called by this company spouting off lies and trying to get money off you to put in a fraudulent complaint.
In my case
1 - I am an IFA. So, cannot be mis-sold. They told me I was mis-sold
2 - My mortgage was bought pre-regulation. Not that they would know that as they dont have the facts to make such a distinction.
3 - The reasons they gave were bogus (not one was a valid reason)
4 - Even if I wasnt an IFA and it wasnt pre-regulation, they have no access to personal data held by a broker or the advice given. They are not in a position to tell you that you have been mis-sold or not.
5 - I am TPS registered so shouldnt be getting cold calls.
Beware these scam calls

Hello dunstonh,
This is my first time on the forum-any forum for that matter!
I have joined because I wanted to see whether there was any information or advice on MSE about this scam you describe.
I was cold-called last week and I am usually pretty good at saying no to nuisance and sales calls but this one was particularly persuasive and after keeping me on the telephone for more than half an hour (and virtually telling me his life story-including how he was 'screwed over' by a previous business partner losing £1m overnight whilst he was abroad ski-ing with his family??!!) I would have to admit that I was taken in by this guy and was almost hooked. He told me that it was highly likely that our mortgage (which we took out in 1998) was mis-sold to us. For me, this didn't seem beyond the realms of possibility as we had just been stung by a sale of a previous house leaving us in negative equity, had been forced to rent for a while and our landlady decided she wanted to sell the house we were renting. Due to some poor credit ratings it was difficult to find a mortgage and we ended up with one of the lenders on this scam companies 'black list' . As you can imagine this strengthened his case. Towards the end of the call he proposed that for a fee of £149 they could carry out a search on our mortgage and determine whether we could make a claim. Thankfully at this point I refused to make any commitment until I had done my own research. There are a couple of companies operating under different names but I notice that they all seem to be based at the same Swansea address....
Thank you for clarifying beyond any shadow of doubt that I was right not to part with my £149!!
On another matter. Would you be able to signpost me to where I might be able to get support with a very high interest secured loan which I believe we were mis-sold in 2006 please? It was for £50,000 over 10 years and by the end of the term in 2016 we will have paid back a staggering £100,000. It is crippling us! Thank you. :-)0 -

That is what a successful scam needs. Something that sounds plausible.Towards the end of the call he proposed that for a fee of £149 they could carry out a search on our mortgage and determine whether we could make a claim.
And that is known as advance fee fraud. They entice with some potential pay off. Get you hooked on that figure you could receive and then hit you with a fee to pay in advance. If you watched Hustle on TV then you know the routine. There are a couple of companies operating under different names but I notice that they all seem to be based at the same Swansea address....
Swansea is the cold calling scam capital of the UK.On another matter. Post it in the mortgage section so the mortgage brokers can see it. However, be aware that it secured loans do tend to be more expensive than mortgages and paying more than double over 10 years, whilst not ideal, was something that could happen. Especially with lenders that focused on the high risk market, such as Ocean Finance, Picture, First Plus etc.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). "high interest secured loan which I believe we were mis-sold in 2006 please?"
Why was it 'mis sold'? Just because something is 'high interest' (which you agreed to), doesn't mean it was 'mis sold.'0 -
Dear Dunstonh,
Thank you very much for the information and for taking the time to reply.
Kind Regards

we had one of these calls a couple of weeks ago, I know my mortgage wasn't missold as we went to a very good IFA and at the time with our credit rating we struggled to even get a mortgage, and the deal we got was as good as what was on offer to normal customers in the mainstream market (god knows how).
he just wouldn't give up and kept spouting despite being told that and us being tps registered, in the end I hung up'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
I've had a couple of these calls. Thing is, I'm a retired bank manager and had a staff mortgage so I know exactly what it was and how it worked. These callers are soooo persistent and can get a bit nasty.0

Yep - we've just had one from them. Straight onto TPS - reported them. Pretty much all you can do. She was also dreadfully rude to my missus. Scummy bunch of chancers (that's CCS by the way - not TPS).0

Just had a call too although not about mortgages but about "that road traffic accident you had a while ago, when the third party admitted liability and paid for the repairs to your vehicle". When I asked when this accident was, I was told "when he rear-ended you". The caller quickly hung up when I 'politely' informed him no one had ever rear ended me!!0

I have been having a number of cold calls from dodgy call centres about industrial benefits I am supposedly owed because I have not claimed them. This morning it was CCS ( lots of noisy tele calls in background ) and the caller went straight into asking me some questions . I stopped him and asked for contact details before we went any further . He was using a withheld number and then offered me an 0800 number . when I said " that's no good to me " he spoke for 10 secs and then cut off . These callers are so dodgy they just cut the call when you start asking them questions.0

I was cold called by someone claiming to be from the CCS Legal Department but he spoke so fast, I had to get him to repeat the name. He wanted to discuss a traffic accident I had been in. When I informed him that his information was incorrect, he then pressed me to give him details of others who may have had an accident! I told him I did not wish to speak to him and I requested that he immediately remove my contact details from his database and not to contact me again. I also reported the incident on the TPS website as I am TPS registered. Not much they can do if it is a scam though.0
