Britannia Private Car Park - Southampton

Hi
Don't know if anyone will read this but unfortunately I have picked up one of these parking tickets yesterday after parking outside McDonalds in the West Quay Car Park in Southampton. Apparently it's a private car park (administered by Britannia Parking) but signs indicating this are quite frankly pathetic and not at all obvious and I've never had to pay to park at a McDonalds ever!!
I see in the earlier threads it says to ignore the ticket but doesn't make it clear whether it's for a private car or a company car. It's just that I was driving a company car - does it make any difference and if so why?
Writing in Hope!!

Yes it does make a difference. I'm assuming you've had something stuck on your windscreen ? If so appeal with the following letter. It will direct the PPC towards you and not your company :
Name
Address
Date
Dear Highview,
In regards to the invoice xxxxx dated xxxxx , the driver does not recognise your authority to issue invoices such as this.
You have 35 days to furnish the driver with this from the date of the original challenge or you time out under the Protection of Freedom Act 2012.
Sincerely,
Print Name ( don't sign )
When you get your POPLA code come back here and bounce this thread.0 -

You have missed out a chunk here, I fear. Not wanting to steal your thunder, do you want to fill in the missing bits?0 -
Feel free to steal my thunder - I'll admit I stole the template from a Storma post !
Ok. You missed the bit out about demanding the POPLA code.
In addition, with some PPCs trying to claim that they have had no appeal points in the motorists' appeals, I have modified stroma's initial soft appeal to read
Name
Address
Date
Dear PPC,
Your invoice xxxxx dated xxxxx.
The driver does not recognise your authority in this car park or your right to impose any terms, conditions or contracts on parking motorists, and wishes to appeal on that basis.
If you reject this appeal, I require within 35 days a POPLA verification code for me to appeal independently as per the requirements set out on the POPLA web site, further supported by the BPA Code of Practice.
You have been given the reasons for the appeal above. I have nothing further to add, and will not respond to any correspondence from your company unless it contains the POPLA code.
Be aware that there will be formal complaints to POPLA and to the BPA if there is no POPLA code on any rejection that you supply.
Yours faithfully

Dave I hope you have realised that you started off on an old thread, but in fact 'ignore' was the OLD advice (2012 and before). It no longer is the advice when you get a fake PCN because in England/Wales there is a better way which kills the fake PCN off at the PPC's own expense = POPLA.
You have to appeal to Highview first, as shown above by Guy's Dad (you could add that 'the driver did not see any clear signs', but if you do make sure you do refer to 'the driver' in the third person, not 'I'). It protects your position at POPLA stage if you do not imply who was driving at all.
You should then get a POPLA code with a nice template rubbish rejection letter from Highview and so you need to read up on POPLA! You do not send the same appeal to POPLA.
You need to read current threads instead of searching and finding random old 2012 ones.
Also read the 'POPLA decisions' thread near the top of the forum, look at page 2 which includes winning POPLA decisions and a link to the Parking Prankster's examples of his appeals to Highview. Hilarious to read and will make you realise that you can win this and it's nothing to worry about.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Hi Thanks for all the advice. I'll send off my appeal letter using the recommended template tomorrow and wait for this POPLA code shall I?
Then what do I do once I get that?
Regards

I would suggest you do some reading of other current threads once you have sent your short challenge (with a sentence to the effect that 'the driver did not see any clear signs so you have failed to comply with the BPA Code of Practice as regards clear signage').
POPLA is mentioned everywhere on this forum in CURRENT threads! And do leave that OLD 2012 thread you keep adding to as it's out of date advice, not conflicting advice, out of date! You should only be reading 2013 current threads.

Happy reading of those links so you can see what is to come (POPLA is only one letter/email but it's a mega letter/email!).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
