They are a massive organisation and vary massively depending on what product, brand and channel you buy from. Their products range from the absolute basic no thrills, internet contact only through to the middle market High Net Worth propositions and everything in between.

Just taken out a policy with Aviva as it gave very competitive quotes. As InsideInsurance said it is very tricky to generalise. The policy I took out seems like good value cover, 5 star defaqto rated.

If you went by which companies have the fewest negative reviews then I think you'd find very little to choose between them as there are bad stories for every company as insurance situations are intrinsically stressful. Whether you have a good claim experience or not can depend as much on the individual who happens to pick up the phone to you as anything else.

So as long as you get a policy that covers all you need, is well priced and you avoid fake companies with dodgy sites and from my experience - any company that operates only online and has no customer service calls - then the rest is in the hands of the gods.

The only problem with AVIVA as that will only give you a maximum of 5 years NCD so when switching to a new insurer has caused me a headache as I have been claim free for years. I don't think I would use them again even if they were the cheapest!

Not a problem though as you can keep your own history and providers will accept that.
