Its a scam. Pure and simple.
saying i am owed £1,000's from a mortgage broker.

You are not owed anything. There is no pot of money.
they said it was that we were'nt giving the full facts.

Your details are not in the public domain (other than the fact you have a mortgage with NR as that is in land registry). There is no way a third party company will know what files your broker has or what conversations took place between you and the broker.

So, straight away you can see they are BSing you.
I was all prepared to start the complaint

Was that because you have a reason for complaint or you were up to that point falling for the scam?
up till they wante money up front for per claim and 30% of any money i recieved. Has any1 else had this call.

Lots of people get these calls. It looks like advance fee fraud. They make their money on the up front payment which you kiss goodbye to the minute it is paid.

Advance fee fraud works by playing to your greed and enticing you with some big pay off giving you some BS reason that sounds sort of plausible but in reality is complete rubbish. At the end after you are hooked, they then tell you that you have to pay a small fee to get the money. If you fall for the fraud, you pay the money and you have been conned. If you ever watched Hustle, you will recall that virtually every episode used the same process.

The main area that the FOS have said they have concerns with over mortgage advice given after Oct 2004 (as you cannot complain on earlier mortgages) is where sub prime lenders were used where a prime lender was available. Northern Rock were a prime lender. Not sub prime.

If you were given reasons for complaint such as adding fees to mortgage or you borrowing too much then these are bogus reasons. Adding fees to mortgages is allowed (and very common). How much you want to borrow is your decision and whilst lenders have to assess borrowing, we all know that they were more than willing to let people borrow during the credit boom. However, that is a lender's decision. Not something you can complain about.

You have avoided the scam. So, well done on that part.
