trying to stop BACS payment

I informed the finance people at my uni to stop the BACS payment of a grant of 627 into my bank account, it was scheduled to go in on wed 6th june

However, the uni finance person tells me that they may be unable to stop the payment because my account is overdrawn (although overdrawn on an agreed overdraft NOT unauthorised or anything)- is this true- will the bank not stop the payment just because my account is overdrawn?

The bank is not at fault here, sounds to me like the Uni Finance has problems with payment runs. If the money comes into your account, simply reverse it by notifying your bank.
