Boots faulty hair straighteners, refund?

Had a query that has been bugging me all week, and know you lovely helpful lot will know the answer..
I needed new hair straighteners before going on holiday, I ended up getting some for £75 from Boots (cash so no statement for proof unfortunately)
They worked once and after that, nothing. As I was on holiday I bought some more so I could use them while away!
Once home I took the faulty straighteners back to Boots to ask if anything could be done as I have misplaced my receipt!
The lady tried the straighteners and confirmed they were faulty, she said I could exchange for another pair, but because I bought some others whilst away I no longer needed any.
I used to work in retail so know that a credit note can be offered, I asked about having the value of the faulty straighteners on a giftcard so i can use in future, but was told not without a receipt, the manager confirmed the same.
Is this correct? Thanks a lot in advance

Whether or not a credit note is offered in this situation is down the the retailer's internal policies.
In fact, without any form of proof of purchase they do not have to do anything.
Your best bet is to humbly accept their offer of a replacement and sell it on ebay or something.0 -
How does once working in retail mean you suddenly know Boot's credit note policy?
It's obviously not going to be the same policy for every company!0 -

Erm, thanks I guess!
Why do people feel the need to be rude/sarky at all?
Where did I say I knew Boots credit note policy? Was that not the nature of my question?
And I actually did work experience at Boots many moons ago, more recently though the company I worked for, and many many others I have shopped at will provide an exchange or credit note for faulty items, or those returned in original condition without a receipt in 28 days.
Which is why I asked, now as usual on here wishing I hadn't! Jeez..0 -
Get a replacement, and get a receipt for the replacement.
Then go into store another day, hopefully see another staff member or even go to another branch and see if you can use that receipt to return them for store credit.
Saving for a year in Japan.
I need around £10,000. Help me get there! :cool:0
