Hello
My first post. Basically I signed on for a 12 month contract and the sales guy said I can cancel my contract anytime without fees if I relocate due to my job if I have proof, which I will do later this year. I was originally going for the flexi but he said I do not have to pay the joining fee. I cannot find this cancellation policy on the internet so was the guy telling the truth or not? I read on this forum about diamond memberships but I do not know what that is (maybe it's outdated). Do you think I should cancel now? (only passed my DD details today) Or just get a confirmation in writing or email? I'm scared as I do not want to enter a 12 month contract if I am moving from the West Midlands to London later this year.
Regards.

Oh and by the way, I've already paid £49.95 so I guess that will cover the first month? Do you think I should cancel DD and just use 1 month?0

I am a member of VA. They do not have diamond memberships. Normally the initial period for new members is 12 months. I suggest you speak to the person who signed you up and get everything in writing.0

Do not just cancel the direct debit!0

Definitely don't just cancel the direct debit! You have a contract with them and cancelling the payment method just means they'll have to try to get the money another way (ie small claims).
Does your contract allow a cooling off period where you can cancel in the first week/month?- many don't so you may not just be able to cancel now. If they do allow cancellations you need to follow whatever cancellation procedure they have outlined.
I'm sceptical that they'll allow you to cancel due to a move unless the move is to a place where there isn't a facility available. There are quite a few VAs around London so you may be out of luck on the cancellation front.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Thank you for getting back to me. I've been back and forth with a membership consultant (his job title in the email) and this is what he sent to me:
Hi X that's no problem. It would be a straight cancellation with no charges once we received the proof of relocation.
Thanks
Now that I have that saved, can I use this as evidence when I do relocate?

I am in the same position, I signed the 12 month contract on 15-8, and tried to change to the monthly rolling contract on the 10-9. at which time I signed a change of circumstance form, they are now saying it cant be honoured. as it was a trainee that implemented the form, I'm moving out of where I live and cant afford the membership any longer plus my change of job means I don't have time to use the faculties.
any ideas please?0 -
surely it being filled in by a trainee is their problem and not yours?!?!?!0

I was told something similar but I don't remember it clearly. I remember being told that if you don't have a VA club that is 15 mins journey time away from your new place, you can cancel. Otherwise, you have to switch to the nearest VA. You can cancel if you lose your job or if you are injured/health.
Have you checked there isn't one near your new place? It'll be cheaper in West Midlands too.0
