HSBC overdraft charges

Hello,
I have just opened an account with HSBC.
I also have a saving account with them.
I was overdraft for 7 days, I didn't realise cause I didn't check and also I have money in my saving account so I thought if I go overdraft why not taking money from my saving account but didn't realise you had to set that up. I was never told to be honest, neither about my overdraft charges, everything in small letters as usual.
Now they are charging £100 for that overdraft and I'm really unhappy about this.
Is it worth complaining and threatening to change bank?
I will actually change bank anyway.
Thank you.
Alexandra

Threatening to change bank - they are going to lose you anyway, so why bother to refund you? Banks don't care about losing a single person unless you are making them lots of money.
Bringing your account back into credit using your savings, and then ringing up and being apologetic and politely requesting the charges are cancelled - if its your first offence this year you stand to get a full or partial refund.
Going overdrawn via any bank will cost you, moving away for this one reason seems daft.0 -
Hi, it's definately worth a phone call or visit to your bank to explain. We recently had some problems where my husband was paid late which meant we incurred quite a few charges as it coincided with a number of direct debits due to go out. After a visit to our bank Santander, we explained our position apologised and they agreed to refund all the charges which amounted to £130. The refund should have gone in the same day but as it was delayed they also added £10 on as way of apology which they really dodn't need to do. They were very helpful and sympathetic. Hope you get it sorted.0

The only thing you can get from this is a goodwill gesture. To get a goodwill gesture you have to go in there and admit it was all your fault. If you even hint the fact you didn't/know or haven't bothered reading what you've signed up to don't expect a thing!0

Learning point number one. It's your job to check.I was overdraft for 7 days, I didn't realise cause I didn't check
You were never told it was set up either.also I have money in my saving account so I thought if I go overdraft why not taking money from my saving account but didn't realise you had to set that up. I was never told to be honest
So you were told about them., neither about my overdraft charges, everything in small letters as usual.
Yes, you should be unhappy with your negligent approach to running a bank account. Now they are charging £100 for that overdraft and I'm really unhappy about this.
A new customer who has already mismanaged their account? They'd be delighted to get rid of you.Is it worth complaining and threatening to change bank?
Grovel, apologise, ask nicely - then there's hope. Kick up a fuss and blame the bank? You'll get nothing.0
