Advice on Swiftcover

Just wondering why it is soo much cheaper than anywhere else? Here are my renewal quotes from confused.com for a 1 year old Yaris with 1 yr no claims:

Swiftcover £387.87
Halifax £555.88
Kwik Fit £576.85
Hastings £586.67
Tesco £603.84 (renewal quote, Tesco are my current insurer)

Been on Swiftcover site and the excesses are better and everything...so what am I missing?

Thanks in advance x

I really shouldn't worry about it. When we got our second car I was getting quotes from £450 right up to £1000+. If you are that worried that you have missed something, give them a call to go over the details of the policy. i.e excesses, courtesy car etc.

They consistently appear to be exceptionally cheap.

I know they have just a small call centre and as they are new looking to get an opening in the market. A few people have issues with them but seem ok so far

Dont forget to go through quidco for a bit of cashback too!!

Like the ads say, they are entirely Web driven. I wasn't aware they had a call centre at all - indeed they emphasise that when you contact other insurance companies by phone. They imply it's like speaking to a battery chicken.

Now that's all very well, but you only find out how good insurance is when you need to make a claim. According to their website, "swiftcover.com is totally internet based". If they don't have a call centre, how do you fancy chasing up a claim by e-mail? I know I wouldn't.

It may be that their claims function is very efficient - I don't know. Still, as their customer base rises, you can bet any small call centre is going to be overwhelmed by frustrated customers who don't get a response to their e-mails chasing up the status of a claim.

I have no axe to grind - I am insured elsewhere. I just think going totally internet based for insurance is a recipe for disaster, for the customers that is. Of course, if you don't think you're going to make a claim, it's not an issue, is it? But if that's so, why bother with insurance at all?

Finally, did you know that Swiftcover's FD and CEO used to hold senior positions at Churchill? When RBS took over, they were casualties. They had no issues about large call centres when they worked at Churchill. Funny that. ;)

Hi - Swiftcover are now owned by AXA rather than Primary Insurance and the ex Churchill bosses.

AXA look as if they are running it as a separate division from the rest of their businesses.

I was insured by them last year and they were by far the cheapest for me too. I never had an accident though (fortunately) so I have no idea what their claims process was like.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
