bathroom quote

I live in dundee and have just had a quote of £750 to fit a new bathroom suite. Job involves ripping out the old one and installing a new one no other work involved, this sounds a bit steep what do you think.

If there are no major alterations to the plumbing ie the new suite is going in the same place as the old one, and you are supplying the suite, then I would agree.

I would do it for half that price plus materials.

I could probably supply and fit for around £600 at the moment. It would be a budget suite but it would be functional.

The only thing that could impact on the cost is the complexity of the plumbing that is there. I replaced a bath a few weeks ago and had to go back and fix the basin waste. The waste pipe was out of 1 inch copper for the sink and 1.25 inch copper for the bath.

Pluming into the wastes was not straightforward.

this quote is not for fitting and supply but for fitting only. I would be suppling the new suite myself are saying that £600 is what is acceptable for supply and fit?
  • Assuming your not changing the position of the W C and not altering the soil pipe ( the main discharge pipe ) expect to pay NO MORE than £300 tops, if your supplying the suite.

Does the plumber ave a cockney accent;) Dundee ain't London

Thanks for the replies, the WC, bath and sink would all be in the same place, this plumber was recommended by my mother-in-law and I thought she liked me. I wonder how much she was charged when he fitted her bathroom.

 I'd say it depends on how much work is invloved- we live in Dundee and 2 years ago it cost us nearly £5,000 for our bathroom -supplied, fitted, tiled, fancy cupboards behing the sink and loo-new cieling, downlights, the whole nine yards.

I would say that using a plumber who is known to be good is priceless, and a personal recommendation is worth paying a bit more for.

I have just had a suite replaced and one wall tiled. I got many quotes but settled on one for £450. The next cheapest quote was £900

I supplied the suite myself. The plumber also removed the old tiles and built the vanity unit prior to putting sink in.

    I paid a fair price I think.
