Has anyone been to this before? If so what lovely freebies await if I was to attend!
I love it when E3 comes around yet feel slighly robbed that I am A) Not a game journalist or publisher and
American! Therefore I am hoping this will be the closest I will get to experiencing E3 in good old Blighty.
Plus a good chance to play the new PS4 & Xbox one games!

I went last year and there weren't a lot of freebies. I was also a bit disappointed with the show tbh, though I think that's because it was coming towards the end of the current gen of consoles and there wasn't an awful lot of *wow* stuff on show.
I reckon it'll be a lot better this year though with the next gen consoles nearly upon us.0 -

I went to one in 2009 in Leeds and the only freebie I got was a WET T-shirt (lol)
I got a lot more freebies at the GAMEfest a few years ago (mountain dew, blu ray, avatar figurine...). I don't know whether it was because Eurogamer 2009 was outside London but it definitely felt more for people who were trying to get into the industry. It was mostly made up of infostands with companies trying to recruit people and talks from developers. It was interesting but I felt a little out of my depth, I just wanted to see the games
There were also games set up everywhere that weren't released yet that you could play. It was difficult to get on them though as there was no one really monitoring the time people were using so kids were hogging them for hours at a time!
I imagine the London one is a lot bigger and better though, I'm actually considering going this year0 -

It's definitely worth going. As for freebies, it varies from year to year. 2011 was better than 2012 in my opinion. Both in freebies and games. The usual is mostly t-shirts and posters.
Last year was more posters than anything. Metal Gear Rising poster, Medal of Honor poster, Need for Speed poster. I think I got t-shirts from Warface, CoD, maybe one more. 90% of the t-shirts I own are from Eurogamer. I got a figurine for playing The Cave, and a 90 day PS+ trial. PlayStation Access usually have goodybags with a few tidbits. Mountain Dew were providing free shots (of Mtn Dew) and there were a few tournaments and challenges to win prizes (Street Fighter, PSASBR, LBP Karting).
Konami had a scavenger hunt to win an entertainment system and Nintendolife had a competition for a Wii U, both hidden inside the Expo guide. Developer sessions also occasionally provide freebies, either in the room (Onlive consoles were on the seats), or at the end (t-shirts handed out as you re-enter the showfloor)
Here's a list of things I got in EGXP '11 (I took note):
OnLive Console
PC Gamer Magazine
Two MW3 Posters
God of War 3 Poster
Uncharted 3 Wrappz PS3 Skin
War of Tanks T-Shirt
Alienware T-Shirt
Uncharted T-Shirt
Skyrim T-Shirt
LittleBigPlanet T-Shirt
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations T-Shirt
Samsung Lanyard
PS Vita Lanyard
World of Tanks Lanyard
The games are the real draw though. I'd recommend two days to get to play everything you want (worth noting that Sunday is the day booths flog excess stock), but if you're just going for one, it's really worth planning what you want to play because the likelihood is that you'll forget until you see it on your way out.
Lines for big games are expected (Watch Dogs and BF4 absolutely included), which is where early entry would come in handy. You really notice the difference in people after that first hour. However, just having an early entry ticket doesn't guarantee you'll get the full hour. Lines for entry are long.
The past three years I've tried to be first, partly because of that, partly because they also get freebies. Last year the first person got a Borderlands 2 travel bag with games. The year before that my friend and I were first and got nothing. It varies, so I'm not promising anything. Last year we arrived "before 6am" and still ended up 5th. If you're early entry, try to get their between 8am and 9am. Although, the way the usher us to the door sometimes, people arriving at 9:30am were standing right beside us. I actually got more freebies on Sunday than I did Saturday.
Insert Coin Tees do throw at t-shirts while people are waiting for entry, and do the same inside at certain times. They usually tweet about it. Checking up on twitter helps keep track of random surprise giveaways like that. Assuming you're not going the first day, checking up on Twitter and blogs and such will let you know who gives away what beforehand too.
Oh, and if you're ever in need of the toilet, go to the over 18 area. Trust me.
These are my words of wisdom.0 -
I would love to go to this! It'd be my first ever game convention0

I've never been...I keep forgetting it exists, as I tend to go to Gamescom. But as far as freebies go, if it's anything like Gamescom, it's so variable.
Gamescom 2010 freebies:
Lanyards. so many lanyards.
Sims jewel headband
inflatable dragon age weapons
Fans
tshirts
free steam games
A really nice fallout lithograph that I framed
A farming simulator straw hat
2012:
Some tshirts
some free steam games
I hope this year is better, but E3 and the journos get all the really good freebies.0 -
Well I booked my Ticket. Afraid I am going on my billy as I can only attend on the Thursday (Friday is my 5th Wedding Anniversary and the wife doesn't fancy a romantic gaming conventions!)
Tomorrow they are going to release the line up of games at the show. Hoping to check out Watchdogs and Battlefield 4 on the next gen consoles and see how they handle and look compared to my trusty 360!
I will report back what I find and see and let you good folks know all the goodies on offer and great games available!:rotfl:Daddy to Baby Jessie Pops, Caitlyn and Aimee and husband to Krystaltips...:T Xbox tag - Meks666... Vist my blog thefantasticmrmeks.wordpress.com0 -
