DVD Recordable player

Hi
I bought a Samsung DVD recordable machine which is great except it only records on DVD-RW discs and these discs will not play on the other DVD machines in the house. I can return this item but is there something I am missing here before I do or do I have to purchase a machine which records on both DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs to enable playback on other machines. I am not very familiar with these new machines but perhaps someone out there is - hopefully.

are you finalising the discs before playing them on the other machines? If that stilldoesn't work it's likely that your other DVD player is too old or doesn't support them. Have you been able to play a DVD-R on your other DVD player or is that the same aswell?0

i think woby-tide is correct; if you're using dvd-rw and they're not finalised its don't think you can watch them outside of the recorder. also if they're finalised you won't be able to record on them again.
i have a panasonic recorder, which mainly uses dvd-ram discs, which you can wipe and re-record 1000's of times over apparently, but these also are restricted to the panasonic player.
if i know there's something on , like a film, that i want to absolutely keep, i just use an ordinary dvd-r, once its finalised then i can watch it elsewhere.0 -

I was looking at a Samsung machine last night (Costco)..... What is the model Number? It should be easy from that to first double check compatibility. The MSE Dictionary

My dvd recorder Liteon5006 takes both types +r -r. -r is more compatible but you have to finalise the discs which is a a real pain compared with +r discs. I would of thought there would be some option to finalise the discs if you haven't already done so.

I bought it from Cosco so it will be the same machine as the one you looked at. It is a DVD-R100E0 -

Yes because of Costco's returns policy (which is why I bought it there) I shall give it a good try out. So far I am very pleased with it except for the problem I explained. I shall have a go at finalising the disc and see what happens. How do I find this link easily - any ideas. I am fairly new to this. I will hopefully find it somehow and let you know how I go on with the DVD. It does play + discs. Thanks again Di0 -
