Hence post #7;)Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
The car in the next space was close but not illegal
I'm sorry, I have to ask........ Do you think that not parking correctly is "illegal"?
It's not a bad thing, I wish more people thought that! :rotfl:
So many people drive about with their own set of driving rules (the "my way code"), that I do wonder why so many fail to park in one parking space.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Makes me wonder if the OP would be blaming the other driver if they had parked their car slightly on the dividing line.0

I'm just wondering what the OP meant by the following:
"The car in the next space was close but not illegal""You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Don't forget a HIRE car for the unfortunate "totally innocent" third party for the time that his car is in the body shop being repaired....
Plus any future problems with rust that could be attributed to this "collision"..
I would say "bite the bullet" - do it properly through your insurers - it may cost you money, but will allow you to sleep at night
Learn from your mistakes - we all make them at some point in our lives !!0 -

IMPORTANT POINT :
This was NOT a "NON-FAULT" claim
The OP has already accepted responsibility - hence faces the full wrath of the law - be that a slapped wrist, or my favourite TAR & FEATHERING !!
(......If only)0 -
Thanks everyone for your advice. Just to set the record straight - I fully accept responsibility and I intend to behave in a fair way. I was just hoping to clarify the legal situation, that's all. There's no need to criticise my parking, driving or any of that - I am aware that the fault is mine, and was simply providing the context that the parking space was very tight. In retrospect I should have waited for the other driver to move out first. I now intend to wait for the other driver to contact me, and I shall either settle the damage in cash or hand it over to my insurer, depending on the cost of the damage (which is really minimal).0

Any chance you could clarify what you meant by illegal?0

Jo, I don't think you have the option to wait. If you hand it to your insurer after (say) a couple of weeks they are probably going to ask why the accident was not reported to them like the policy conditions say.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0
